DESIGN SPOTLIGHT: BROOKE WAGNER

DESIGN SPOTLIGHT: BROOKE WAGNER

In this new series, we're sitting down with some of our favorite interior designers to talk textiles, learn all about their upcoming projects and see how they've used CCT fabrics in their work. Since 2003, Brooke Wagner has been creating beautiful custom residences for clients of her own design firm, Brooke Wagner Design. Considered a staple in the California design scene, and with an enviable Instagram following of 160k+, if you aren't already familiar with her work it's high time.

"A home should be inviting and comfortable without sacrificing style and good design."

-Brooke Wagner

Hi Brooke! So nice chatting with you, how would you describe your design philosophy?

Hi There! I love homes to tell a story of the client that resides there.  A home should be inviting and comfortable without sacrificing style and good design. My personal taste celebrates lots of texture (whether it be nubby linens, metals with a patina, or warm woods) and organic neutrals layers to create a warm and welcome space that you want to hang out and spend time in.

You use a lot of neutrals and blues in your work. What draws you to this color palette and when do you navigate outside of it?

Living in Newport Beach, the aesthetic that surrounds us is the ocean.  I love bringing that approachable, soothing, coastal vibe into homes by using blues as a neutral.  Every once in a while we get a client who craves a funkier feeling, and in turn, we are happy to work with some out-of-the-box BWD colors. We want every home to be true to the client's personality, so if that means finding a great mustard fabric or having that pop of green, we are just as enthusiastic to use to colors as the clients are to try them.

Walk us through the design process for this room, and your choice to use our hand printed TITIK fabric.

When asked to design one of the cottages for Lido House, we really wanted to have the entire space feel like you're walking into a BWD custom home, which means that each element adds to a cohesive and custom experience. The TITIK fabric is that beautiful, natural, organic look we love mixed with a subtle print that adds texture to the space.

What new projects do you have coming up? We'd love to hear about it!

We have several great projects coming getting near completion that I can't wait to get installed and photographed.  We have a large home right on the sand in Malibu and Laguna Beach that have been in the works for years that will be so fun to install the furnishing and finishing touches along with several new builds that we are just starting on and in the early planning phases.  One, in particular, is a family compound in La Jolla that will be complete with a subterranean bowling alley and a shark pond!

Brooke's Favorites:

Fabric from our collection?

KETUT and GAMAL, they both work in so many applications. Drapery, amazing lounge chair cushions or pillow and bedding!

Way to use textiles in a master bedroom?

I love layering textiles on a master bed, especially in the pillows. Putting together a linen solid with a geometric print and layering in a stripe brings so much depth and interest to a space.

Style of pillow (knife edge, flange, self-welt, contrast piping, etc) and why?

Lately, we've been doing a lot of knife edge or seamed flange pillows. Both are styles that are able to work well with transitional homes, traditional or even modern homes… It’s all about the clean lines.
